In the Netherlands, we have a lovely cookie tradition. We prefer to drink our cup of coffee with a biscuit on the side. We drink on average 2.4 cups of coffee a day and like a sweet snack with it. The sweet and the caffeine strengthen each other.
But how come? A study by The Institute of Food Technologists shows that caffeine increases the craving for sweets. They researched two groups; one group drank coffee without caffeine, the other group drank coffee with caffeine. And with a surprising result: there was a clear difference in the craving for sweets.
In the Netherlands, we often eat biscuits such as speculaas, chocolate biscuits and brittle biscuits alongside our favorite black liquid. A tradition that we from Hellema love to keep, of course.
